The CID arrested a Police Inspector working in the Polonnaruwa Police Station who had allegedly attempted to transfer 14 Police officers by sending a forged

document bearing the official seal of the Chief of Staff to the President and National Security Advisor Sagala Ratnayake to the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the North Central Province. Investigations have revealed that the 55-year-old Police Inspector from Polonnaruwa New Town was working in Kandakadu and had recently received a transfer to Polonnaruwa after allegedly sending a forged letter to the Deputy Inspector General of North Central Province which has given the impression as it has been authorized by Sagala Ratnayake.

Two or three weeks ago, the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for North Central Province Rajitha Sri Daminda has received a letter signed by Sagala Ratnayake under the President’s Office letterhead with the names of 14 Police Officers to be transferred from the places where they are currently serving to other places.

It is mentioned in this letter that an investigation is going on regarding a petition received regarding the concerned officials, so they should be transferred to other stations.

The letter has not included anything about the allegations against those officers. Due to the lack of information and the fact that the letter was sent directly by registered mail without being addressed by the Inspector General, the Senior Deputy Inspector General decided to seek confirmation regarding this letter.

For that, he sought the support from the Chief Security Officer of Sagala Ratnayake. He had sent the letter through WhatsApp and asked him to find out if Sagala Ratnayake has sent such a letter and let him know.

Accordingly, during the investigation conducted by the officer, it has been transpired that Sagala Ratnayake has not sent such a letter and he has never issued such a letter. After the security officer informed Sagala Ratnayake about this, he informed the Inspector General of Police to conduct an investigation in this regard.
