Police Bust Fake Money Printing Racket

Police investigating a fake money printing racket raided a photography studio in Alawatugoda, Kandy and arrested two people along with 45 fake Rs.5,000 notes. They also seized the computer devices used to print them.

The detection was made following complaints lodged by several businessmen regarding fake notes.A person who came to several shops had produced Rs. 5,000 notes to buy goods during the period, but he had only bought goods for less than Rs.500.

Later, while perusing the currency notes several businessmen had found them to be fake. The police, who were on the lookout for the person in question on Wednesday (19) afternoon arrested him while he was tendering a fake Rs.5,000 note to buy goods.

During further search, the police found four more fake Rs.5,000 notes in the suspect’s possession. During a subsequent inspection of the suspect’s house in the Alawathugoda area, the Police discovered 40 more Rs.5,000 fake notes hidden in the toilet.

Based on the information given by the suspect that the Rs. 5,000 notes were given to him by a photography studio in Alawathugoda town, a police team raided the place and found a scanned copy of a Rs.5,000 note in a computer machine.

The Police say that all the fake Rs. 5,000 notes found have the same serial number. The suspects told the Police that they printed around 50 fake notes. The suspects are to be produced in Court.
