The POG craze of the mid-’90s is making a comeback, but this time it combines traditional playground equipment like milk caps and slammers with newer technologies like NFT discs and an online game.
POGs originally appeared on Web3 around a year ago, when several collections, including digital collectibles based on Solana’s Okay Bears project, made their debut on the Solana blockchain.

This week, though, a new NFT mint will be unveiled on Ethereum, coinciding with the launching of an online version of the classic POG-slamming game.
POGs NFT creator Kyler Frisbee told Decrypt that moving to Ethereum felt like “stepping up to the big leagues,” because to the increased trading volume and liquidity compared to the Current NFT market.
Using Origin Protocol’s Origin Story NFT platform, the World POG Federation’s POGs NFT has built a specialized marketplace in preparation for the drop. The company will produce 3,800 Ethereum NFTs on April 6; these will be a mix of POGs and slammers with custom artwork for each token costing 0.049 ETH (about $90 at the time of writing).
Some upcoming Ethereum-based video games will support the NFTs when they are released this summer. This week, Solana will launch the first ever POG with a play-to-earn model, Stack & Slam. Players of Frisbee succeed by a mix of timing, skill, and chance, much like the original slammer-tossing playground experience.
Several of the NFTs will feature artwork from well-known NFT initiatives like Bored Ape Yacht Club and Moonbirds. While only Bored Ape owners are authorized to use or license their artwork for commercial products, anyone is free to sell anything with Moonbirds’ artwork because it is public domain. There are also POG NFTs based on popular franchises like Neo Tokyo and Viva La Vandal.
In May, Frisbee and company plan to ship out physical POG packets based on the Web3 project to token holders who will then have access to the marketplace to buy limited edition POGs based on the NFTs.
He elaborated on how POGs NFTs supplement the physical POGs experience by providing digital collectibles that flow into video games.
The expansion of NFT and the celebrity partners are meant to“bring the right buzz for when the official distribution of those POGs comes back globally,” he said, implying that he plans to reintroduce actual POGs in a big way.
