Poetry Teams’ T-shirts Are a SLAM Dunk

By Fibers @fibers

Custom t-shirts are great for teams and organizations. The Columbus Alternative High School (CAHS) Slam Poetry Team from Columbus, Ohio wore their custom fibers t-shirts to victory last month.  The team competes annually in the Columbus City Schools District Poetry Slam against teams from all over the district. The students had to write and perform their own original poems. This year’s teams consisted of:  Micah Naguit (Senior and Team Captain), Garret Hinojosa (Senior), Yusuph Mkangara (Junior), Alexis Apparicio (Junior), and Hannah Russell (Sophomore).  Sidney Jones Jr. is an English teacher at the school and the coach of the Poetry Team for the past four years. Yusuph Mkangara won the award for the highest scoring Individual Poet, Micah Naguit won the “Spirit of the Slam Award” for being the highest scoring non-individual finalist and for being the poet who best represents the what the Slam is all about.  Micah also won this award in 2010.  This was the teams first time winning first place in a Championship.  Prior to this, they finished second in 2010, and third in 2011. The team chalks up their success, in part, to their custom fibers.com t-shirts. “Aside from the buzz created by our poems, there was a lot of reaction to our very cool shirts! In fact due to demand, I’ll be placing a re-order soon,” Jones Jr told Fibers.com in an e-mail. “Thanks Fibers.com, for being an easy-to-use service, which allows us to design ‘one of a kind’ creations.”

Jones said he intends to lead his team to victory again next year clothed in Fibers.com t-shirts.
