WHAT'S IT'S ABOUT
Night Porter was one of the winning submissions in the 2010 Templar Pamphlet and Collection Awards and was launched with a live reading at the fourth Derwent Poetry Festival. It is a short collection which explores the experiences of a night porter working in a Hotel in York, and introduces readers to a range of characters and scenarios - both modern and Dickensian.

I've never read this poet before. I also got this free when I subscribed to iOTA magazine.
Night Porter is an enjoyable collection of poetry. This collection reads more like one quite long poem split into little sub-sections. The poems were intriguing, touching and intense at times. I liked the way the poet explores the rather seedy, slightly dark façade behind the scenes of a hotel. I also liked the way the poet used language and how the poems flowed. My favourite poems are Breakfast, Christmas, A Tight Ship, CCTV and A Man Walks Into A Bar.
I'd like to read some more of this poet and recommend this collection.
