Swiss Ambassador Dr Siri Walt called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees yesterday (February 16).
The Prime Minister thanked Switzerland for the support extended for debt restructuring arrangements at the Paris Club during negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and briefed the Ambassador about the reforms and restructuring as well as the actions taken for speedy reconciliation.
Ambassador Dr Walt congratulated the government for the success in the economic recovery process. She assured the fullest support to Sri Lanka for peace, stability and reconciliation programmes.
Premier Gunawardena urged Switzerland to consider setting up pharmaceutical plants as joint ventures in the newly-planned Pharma Zone at Arabokka in Hambantota. He also said new investments in renewable energy would greatly assist Sri Lanka’s climate related action agenda to raise alternative energy ratio to 70% by 2050. He briefed the Ambassador about the progress o setting up new Climate Change University in Kandy.
Ambassador Dr Walt assured that Switzerland would consider extending support to Sri Lanka for its green energy and climate related plans.
Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, Harsha Wijewardne and Deputy Ambassador Olivier Prax also attended the meeting.
