Sony has unveiled the official media remote of the PlayStation 5, which gives a glimpse of where streaming services will be available on the next generation of consoles. The remote has dedicated buttons for Disney +, Spotify, Netflix and YouTube.
In addition to those four services, Sony revealed a full list of apps coming to the console on day one. The list includes Apple TV + and Twitch. Sony says that more streaming services are coming to the console in the future, including Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, Hulu, and Mycel.
Twitch and YouTube applications integrate into the system, allowing players to livestream Twitch or share clips directly to YouTube. The Spotify app allows PS5 owners to play music from the app in the background while playing the game.
In the same announcement, Sony revealed that the Apple TV app was coming to PlayStation 4, as well. There is currently no set release date for the app.
The remote itself is largely the same as when Sony first showed it, except for filling in the previously empty App button. It has volume control, navigation arrows and standard video playback buttons.
The remote launched on October 30, two weeks before the November 12 release of PlayStation 5 and retailed for $ 30. It is currently available for pre-order on Target's website.
As revealed in last week's user interface video, all PS5 streaming apps reside in the console's dedicated media space, which is separate from the game interface. All applications are immediately available in the control center and do not need to be downloaded individually.
