Places to See in Pahagam

Pahalgam is a beautiful town seated at a height of 7200 ft above the sea level in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir,
India. The beautiful hill station is seated by the confluence of the Seshnag
Lake and the Lidder River and has the most beautiful trekking routes in the region cutting its ways through the pine woods. The place remains bustling with tourists most of the year round and falls on the route of the famous Amarnath Yatra. Pahalgam forms the part of the only Asian saffron growing belts. The summers remain cool whereas the winters are very cold making the tourism near to no in the hill station. The word Pahalgam literally means the “Valley of the Shepherds”. The valley remains to be a popular spot for the ones with hobbies for fishing, horsing, trekking and golfing.
Let us now get an idea about some tourist places in Pahalgam.
Baisaran
Baisaran is known for the high rise conifers making the perfect background for the beautiful meadows. It is located at an elevation of 8000 ft above sea level at a distance of about 5 kms from the town of Pahalgam. The paces of Hajan and Chandanwari are popular picnic spots in the region. The place has been the backgrounds for many Bollywood films that were shot at Baisaran. Due to the appearance sometimes Baisaran is also fondly called the “Mini Switzerland of India”.
Mamal
Pahalgam consists of eight villages, of which Mamal is one of them. The popularity of the place is due to the oldest temple of Kashmir, the Mamaleshwar Temple, which dates back to the 5th century and is dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Shiva.
 
Bataab Valley
The valley is located at a distance of 7 kms from Pahalgam town at an average altitude of nearly 8300 ft above the sea level. The pace was originally called Hajan valley but after the Hindi film “Beetab” was shot here the place came to be known as the same. The place lies at the Sheshnag River that originates from the Sheshnag Lake in the glacier. The place is filled with the trekkers and travelers and due to this the monkeys can also be seen near the camping sites.
Apart from these, just within your reach there are a few other places as Chandanwadi which is located at a separation of 16 kms from Pahalgam and is a beauty studded place with the mesmerizing views of the lofty rocks and the verdant mountains. The place is a traveler’s delight and the Lidder River brings about the beauty for your lenses at places with wooden bridges at places.
The Pahalgam golf course is a place you won’t want to miss out. The golf course is a fine 18 holes course neatly manicured to give delight to the players. The golf course is filled with many canals and is spread in around 700 yards and thus covering the most parts of the narrow Pahalgam valley.
Pahalgam is all about the natural beauty and the brown bear can be found in the region and is also the anglers stop. The valley is seated in a pure ambience giving peace to the heart of the visitors.
