While piss play aka golden shower are the butt of a Donald Trump joke for some, they are an exceptionally erotic experience for others. One form of piss play, which is exactly what it sounds like: sexual play involving piss, is golden showers. While they may seem easy to make fun of because most of us grew up with bathroom humor, when it comes to the subject of golden showers, we should probably be nicer because a lot of people are into them, and kink-shaming is not cool.
As part of BDSM Piss Play, certain individuals engage in golden showers. A power exchange in which one partner is submissive and the other partner is dominant involves BDSM. The dominant partner typically pees upon the submissive in this particular scenario. Because they’re horny and bored, other people just try them out. Let’s talk about all the reasons that people love golden showers and what you should know if you want to try this particular kink out.
How prevalent is the interest in golden showers/piss play?
According to experts, this particular kink is actually incredibly ordinary. “Urophilia — golden showers, piss play, and the like — is such a common kink that there are piss parties full of folks who want to explore this,” says Michael DeMarco, a sex therapist and relationship counselor from New York. Goddess Aviva, a professional and lifestyle dominatrix based in New York City, adds, “It’s so common! People love to be peed on. And quite a few of them also like to drink it.” In fact, an Australian survey says that about four percent of men have a piss play fetish, and Pornhub statistics show that after it was alleged in 2017, searches for “golden shower” increased exponentially (along with related terms).
There are also quite a few online communities that people interested in golden showers/piss play can go to. In fact, there are over 25,000 members in the “watersports” (another name for piss play) group on the kinky social media website FetLife. In addition, there are specifically tailored dating apps and websites for people looking to find other kinky individuals to hook up with, including KinkD, BDSM.com, Fetster.com, and more.
There’s sterile urine, right? So, are there safe golden showers?
There is going to be some risk whenever you exchange bodily fluids piss play. It’s only true that urine is sterile if the person peeing is completely healthy, according to Kimberly Langdon, an OB/GYN and clinical advisor at Medzino Health. “Urine can spread disease, including bacterial, fungal, and viral infections,” she explains. This most commonly occurs during a golden shower, if the recipient has an open wound.
“Regarding skin contact, urine will usually cause no harm if there are no fissures, broken skin or open wounds,” Langdon adds. If this is, however, the case, then if the partner urinating has a bacterial infection and the urine comes into contact with wounds and mucous membranes, urine may cause infection.’
So, if you’re enjoying golden showers or piss play with someone whose health status you’re unsure of, make sure you don’t get any open wounds, and ask them to aim at your stomach somewhere besides the mouth, for example. Talk to your partner about your health; professional dominatrixes are on it already.
You need to make sure you’re not sick or have any kind of infection with anything where you’re sharing body fluid. Hydration is also really important. The other factor you should consider is how close you are to the mouth of someone. A way to avoid that is to be above them,”With anything where you’re sharing bodily fluid or piss, you need to make sure that you’re not sick or have any kind of infection. It’s also really important to hydrate. The other factor that you should consider, is how close you are to someone’s mouth. A way to avoid that is to be above them,”Goddess Aviva.
OK, so how do I give (or get) a golden shower properly?
First off, an hour or so before, the person performing the golden shower will probably want to drink a lot of water. Like, very much. Choosing the right place is also important; golden showers probably shouldn’t take place in your bed. If you’re curious about golden showers, being in the shower or bath is an easy way to do it. And if you’re not really into it, you can immediately rinse it off,”If you’re curious about golden showers, an easy way to do it is to be in the shower or bath. And if you’re not really into it, you can rinse it off right away,”And if you’re not really into it, you can rinse it off.
Once you’ve figured out where it’s going to happen (and with whom it’s going to happen), make sure all parties know and fully agree with what the plan is. After all, consent is the most important part of any sex act. Have everything you want nearby for clean-up, and everybody should be ready with a safe word, too.
Remember what we’ve discussed above, that urine is not sterile, and that there should be no open cuts or sores for the person receiving the golden shower. You’re good to go if this checks out, but be patient, particularly if it’s the first time you’re trying this for either of you. Finally, clean off when you’re all done, and if you feel like it, keep the fun going with piss play .
When I want to try piss play, what else should I know?
If this is something you want to try, other than clean-up and potential risks from fluid exchange, you just have to make peace with your desire to try and give or receive a golden shower and then discuss it with your partner(s) so that you can experience one from a place of mutual enthusiastic consent.
“Owning your sexual expression from the get-go will put you on more solid ground once you’re in a relationship to be able to have awkward or challenging talks about sexuality and how your sexual expression might evolve,” Langdon says. Now that you know all about piss play, if you want to try it for yourself, there is only one thing left to do-go find a partner who is into it, too. Happy month for kinks, babes.
Whatever you call it, golden showers, water sports, or piss play, urophilia has recently had a resurgence in mainstream interest following some unsavoury and as yet unproven leaks about Donald Trump, a pre-White House. Even in a world where suburban housewives read 50 Shades of Grey on the subway, becoming sexually excited by urine or the thought of urine is still taboo as a kink or fetish. A 2010 survey by Jennifer Eve Rehor of San Francisco University found that only 36.5 percent of over 1,700 females surveyed said they had peed on or been peed on by a lover, while over 90 percent reported being spanked. So why are most individuals still so uncomfortable playing with urine? Recently, Luna Matatas taught a class called ‘Intro to Urine Play’ at the Toronto sex shop Good For Her and I spoke with her just before the seminar to get a beginners’ urophilia guide.
The sensation of it, the warmth or the wetness, some people like. Some people like the taste, some people like the idea of swallowing something that’s really taboo. Some people really enjoy it as a form of power play, either they want to give to a person who submits to them or the individual who submits to them wants to take it from their dominant as a sign of surrendering to the ultimate sign of submission, taking someone inside you and taking their waste or their fluids inside you. I really enjoy it as a sign of worship and ritual, so I would drink it as a sign of taking the golden nectar of the goddess.
Why is playing with urine or piss play a taboo?
I believe it is because, as a society, we have such a heavy focus on sanitation and hygiene. Especially around things that come out of your body, we emphasize cleanliness and we’re constantly bombarded with messages that pee is dirty, pee should be contained, pee should be private. So a lot of people would like to explore the taboo to be naughty and go against it. The sanitation piece is still very mainstream and so you’re really worried that they’re going to think you’re dirty or something is deviant about you or that something’s wrong with you because you want to pervert something that everyone else accepts as wrong to even bring it up with your partner.
Let’s say you’re brand new-what do you need to know about peeing?
I’d figure out what the pee that turns on you is about. Because if it’s about emotion, it opens up a range of games for you. The act of being denied the ability to urinate even turns on some individuals so that they get a tense feeling, a sense of fear, of being out of their body. By wearing it, some people are really turned on, so they like the smell of urine, the wetness of it. So I would start exploring the imagination of it, what do you masturbate when you think of pee, is it a dominant person, is it just kind of pissing on each other, is it a sensual thing? Once you can find those flavors for yourself or your kink, then you can look for someone who is like-minded.
OK, what are you supposed to drink, or not drink?
Lots of water, diuretic stuff like dandelion tea, beer, coffee, stuff like that will push your pee through it. Some people might want an enhanced taste if you’re into [it] because of the taste, so morning pee, asparagus, it depends on what they’re actually looking for. Pineapple juice, if you want to change the color of your pee, beets, or for a sweeter pee. But mostly water. Keep moisturizing.
Does that ever take you out of the “the mood,” because you’re just drinking water all the time?
I make it part of a scene or foreplay.
And what about that mess? When you are like, “oh no my sheets” how can you relax?
If you don’t do a lot of peeing, you can put a towel down. You can pee into a vessel first like a bowl or I pee into a chalice because we’re ritualizing pee if you’re doing a large amount, let’s say you’re peeing on someone in a place that isn’t a tub or a shower. You can definitely use incontinent pads or puppy pads, they are disposable and you can simply throw them out.
And what’s with Trump? Do you think he gave a bad name to Pee Play?
I think his incident brought up a pee-playing fork. It was a chance for sex educators who did a great job of putting out de-shaming information, so if we talk about it, let’s talk about it in a way that people can move their barriers so that they can have the kind of pleasure they want. And then it brought more shame to other people because people were saying it was disgusting, and it brought up how you felt about him because it was Trump. So it brought it into the mainstream, but there was a lot of kink-shaming as well.
Who do you think is the first person ever to pee on someone else and then have sex immediately afterwards?
I don’t know. I hope it was a rock star or something like that.
We’re not talking about jet-skis when we talk about water sports… ‘golden showers’ or piss-play have become more popular in recent years, so if you’re thinking about’ diving in,’ we have everything you need to know right here.

Just a quick word on keeping stuff safe before we get into the fun stuff.
When you’re well hydrated, water sports are all the more fun, as there’s more to come out of there. We’d always recommend staying hydrated, but if you’re going to be drinking any pee, this is particularly important.
Speaking of drinking pee, some drugs and medicines can stay in pee, so try to avoid taking any recreational drugs or participating in water sports while on powerful medication. Hepatitis B can also be transmitted through urine, so be sure to know the status of your partner.
Broaching the topic
It can be a bit of a tricky subject to communicate your interest in water sports to a partner. Watersports is different from trying to say anal sex, because you can’t really ‘put a finger in’ and see how it works… It’s also still seen as somewhat tabu by main.
What is probably best here is simply to communicate clearly about what you do to your partner-let him/her know that you have a kinky request, they are free to decline, but if they are interested or at least not opposed, you would like to speak further.
If they are not opposed, then move on to discussing boundaries-for instance, while you may be happy to pee in your mouth, they may not be-and may only want to involve the lower part of their body. Discussing limits in advance will ensure that the act goes much more smoothly.
Alone piss play?
Don’t you have a partner, or don’t you have a partner who wants to join you in water sports? That isn’t necessarily an issue.
There’s nothing to stop you peeing on yourself, and many of the tips in this article apply just as well to someone who enjoys water sports on their own as to couples. Watersports can be enjoyed solo.
Want to watch it?
Just how involved you want to be is one of the first things you need to think about. Several levels of involvement exist:
Just watching, watching
You just want to watch your partner, without touching or exchanging fluids, use the toilet.
This is a good entry point to the world of watersports and can help both partners feel more comfortable going to the toilet in front of the other. Don’t forget that some people can be a little pee-shy, so they may need some warm-up.
This could be as easy as watching your partner use the toilet, watching them go in the shower, or even peeing outdoors, since it’s just one person going.
To give / receive piss play
If you’ve watched and liked what you see, maybe it’s time to begin to get involved. The next step is to take or get pee on your body (or both!)-as mentioned earlier, be sure to discuss in advance where you are happy to receive the pee-some individuals, for example, may not want it in their hair/faces.
Being drinking
The next step is to get the pee straight into your mouth. For some, this could be a step to far, or for others, something extremely erotic-go as far as you’re happy.
While some individuals may be happy to just take the pee in their mouth and spit it out, some might want to drink it all up! You’re you, you go as far as you want.
The Pee Internal
A step further is peeing inside of someone, such as peeing inside the anus of your partner. This is quite sophisticated and something for which you would like to take all possible health precautions, as well as go slowly.
Creating a mess
Some people pee a lot, some pee a little-pee is going to be involved in watersports either way.
We would always recommend that you do water sports where you can clean up easily-the bath or the shower are natural choices here.
If you don’t have the space in these, however, or just feel like doing it somewhere else, then make sure you have plenty of towels available to soak up any extra pee. The last thing you want is to sleep on a wet mattress.
Of course, if you have sufficient privacy, there’s also an option outside. Of course, be mindful of any local legislation.
The Positions
The “golden shower” classic
In front of the other, one partner kneels, sits or lies down, the standing partner thinks watery thoughts and pees on the other. When getting wet, the receiving partner may want to masturbate, or may want to rub the pee over themselves. Communication here helps as partners can discuss what they want to see each other do during the act.
Peeing your trousers
Maybe not a poisition per-se, but some people like to watch people pee through their clothes, sometimes with a dynamic of loosing control (peeing their pants). This is something to talk to your partner again, and you may want to buy some inexpensive clothes online to use specifically for the occadion.
The toilet for humans
Although the name can be somewhat offputting, the act can be quite erotic in itself.
The receiving partner sits directly beneath the giving partner with its head, as if they were the toilet, and allows the partner to go on them. To make this position easier, there is bondage furniture available (essentially either a chair with the seat removed or a chair with a toilet seat for a seat) that the giver sits on and the receiver sits underneath.
The tree watering
The gentleman lies down in this position with the female partner sitting either on his legs or squatting above his genitals. She pees straight on his penis from here.
With him hard and inside her vagina, this can also be attempted, with her peeing on him while sitting on him cowboy-style, but this can be somewhat difficult for her to accomplish.
End to finish piss play
Both partners sit touching and peeing over each other with their gentials, either both at the same time, or taking turns.
BDSM & Water Sports
Some people like watersports just because, while some like the element of power exchange. About peeing on / getting peed on, there is certainly something dominant / submissive.
This can take the place of watersports in BSDM in the form of a punishment (or even a reward!). For instance, if the sub was bad, they’ve got to drink all the dom’s pee. Or after watching them use the toilet, they could perform a service of licking the dom clean, and receive a reward.
Some go as far as wanting to become a “toilet slave,” even though this requires you to be quite a big fan.
