Last Sunday, the competition in the Beskidy MTB Trophy 2013 came to the end. Mountain bikers from 20 countries competed for four days on the routes around Istebna in the Silesian Beskid, Poland. From the first stage there were heavy weather conditions. The rain, low temperature and a lot of mud. All of this have made this year race more difficult than ever.
The main race favorites were: Brzozka Piotr and Adrian Brzozka (JBG2 PROFESSIONAL MTB TEAM), Sebastian Szraucner (radsport BOMM), Patryk Piasecki (Algida Kross Centrum Rowerowe Olsztyn), Ondrej Fojtik (X-SPORTS Cannondale KOMA), Christian Sloth Christiansen (Varda CYKLELKLUB) . Since the beginning of the first stage, we were watching those riders all the time in the lead. The first stage was relatively easy comparing to the next days, driveways led mostly gravel roads. After almost 70 km, JBG2 riders crossed the finish line. The stage winner was Piotr Brzózka. The second stage was marked by mud. On that day, the Brzózka brothers again left behind the rest of the players, nevertheless on that day Patryk Piasecki managed to follow them and completed the stage in 3rd place losing to the winner only 15 seconds. The third day, so called „The Royal” one, was the longest stage with the largest elevation and became another show of power given by JBG2. This time victory was for Adrian Brzózka. Sebastian Szraucner took 3rd place on this day and managed to decrease the last day gap to Patryk Piasecki. Before the final stage, both Patryk and Sebastian were able to stand on the podium in GC. After successive rainfall the organizers for the sake of safety of the competitors have decided to shorten the final stage from 71 to 46 km. After cutting the route including several uphills, which were perfect to run the attacks. Piotr and Adrian Brzózka arrived to the finish line with secure gap to the chasing group. Behind them, Patryk and Sebastian were fighting for the 3rd place. Sebastian Szraucner attacked, but he was able to make up only for 20 seconds. With a small loss to Sebastian, Patryk Piasecki took third place in the GC.
The women's competition had three main characters: Asa Erlandsson (ALLEBIKE OF SWEDEN), Justyna Frączek (MURAPOL TWOMARK GROUP PM Specialized), Hanna Verheles (BBB RACING). Asa won the GC with three stage victories. In the last stage after sprint finish the Norwegian rider came after Justyna Frączek. Hanna Verheles took 3rd place at the end of the race.
