Pie Society Through Instagram

By Slowdownandsavor

Last night was an epic night in San Marcos, TX. Seriously. The ever popular Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos opened their brand new location to the public for a special preview event from 6 – 9 p.m. AWESOME!!! They promised two free tacos per person, along with 2 free drinks and all you can eat portions of their famous green chile queso. Crazy. I was AMPED for this preview, and had it planned over a week in advance. And if you know me, that’s impressive, since I don’t plan ANYTHING more than 1 week in advance. Torchy’s Tacos, threw this party to celebrate the grand opening of San Marcos’ very own location in the former San Marcos United States Post Office, also known as Guadalupe Station, which happens to be TODAY at 7AM.

Now, like I said, my family and I were all ready to be there at the event right at its start, but once we arrived… no way. It was freezing cold and raining, and the line stretched all the way around the block, down to the little HEB. Player… Please.

Sorry, but there’s no way I was going to subject our little one and my hubby to a line of that magnitude in the conditions of the evening. That’s not to say that I won’t be back to Torchy’s this very week in order to get the complete low down for you guys, but let me just quickly apologize that I don’t have all of the pertinents right now, aside from some of the details.

Torchy’s will occupy 4,000 square feet on the northeast corner of the building, located at 301 N Guadalupe.  Fans of the concept should expect all-day full menu offerings, as well as full bar options and daily drink specials.  Favorites include one of Torchy’s newest drinks, the Proud Mary, a not-so-average hangover cure dressed with a full slice of bacon and Torchy’s signature Diablo Hot Sauce (fire-roasted habanero chilies, vinegar, spices, and tomatoes).

Exciting stuff, my friends. Exciting. Stuff.

But what were we to do? We were hungry in San Marcos, and honestly feeling a bit deflated. My husband had the brilliant thought to go to Pie Society, our favorite place for pizza in town, and one of our favorite places in general. It’s just so good every single time we go. Seriously. We’ve been a ton of times, and never have they ever let us down. Just sensational.

So we arrived at Pie Society only minutes after gawking at that Torchy’s line of days, and felt instantly happy once stepping in. It was warm, inviting and smelled amazing, as usual. We ordered their Texas goat cheese with a roasted garlic bulb, pizza sauce, Texas honey & a toasted homemade baguette to start with. For pizza, we went with slices rather than ordering a whole pie. It’s the best way, because we can each get exactly what we want. The little one get his very favorite slice, the 78-666, with Italian sausage, pepperoni & bacon, while both Michael and I got the same thing: a slice of the Balance of Power with fresh spinach, spicy sausage & a touch of Texas honey, and a slice of The Master of Ceremony, with Stubbs BBQ sauce, red onion, roasted chicken breast & fresh cilantro.

I usually HATE honey, but honey combined with fresh Texas goat cheese, sweet roasted garlic, and tangy pizza sauce is apparently magical, and that same sorcery of deliciousness keeps going through the rest of their menu, and somehow, honey tastes like angels breath, when mixed with spicy sausage and fresh spinach on that Balance of Power. Man oh man… And that Master of Ceremony slice was crazy good too. If you’ve ever had that BBQ Chicken Pizza from California Pizza Kitchen, this is like that, only next-level. Like, a lot better.

Anyway, like I said, it was an amazing decision to ditch the line and head to a state of pizza-bliss. Check out the deliciousness through Instagram. If you don’t follow me, you should!

Plus, their Social Parlor is now open Thursday – Saturday nights, and I promise you, it’s worth checking out. Thanks to the ever amazing staff, we were able to sneak in last night and check it out. 1 word: GORGEOUS. So amazing…

So get over there and check out their scrumptious pizzas, delicious salads, excellent appetizers, toasty sandwiches and awesome selection of drinks. You won’t be sorry!
