Phantogram – “Black Out Days”

The latest from New York duo Phantogram starts off sounding like the goofy psychedelic theme song to the show The Mighty Boosh. In actuality, “Black Out Days” is a sinister mix of rattled electro-pop and Sarah Barthel’s commanding vocals. “Black Out Days” has a lot of force behind its crunchy, ricochetting beats, eventually cooling into a brief coda of vocals and filtered piano. It’s been about two years since we’ve heard anything new from Phantogram: now at least we know there may be more to look forward to.
