Pepper’s Personalised Heart Shaped Pancakes Recipe!

Good afternoon lovebirds!

This year I’ve gone a little Valentine’s mad.
I don’t celebrate it myself but it is nice to take a theme and run with it, creating little projects is so much fun!

A while ago I created a bento box with a love theme!

Earlier this week I showed you how to make Japanese style chocolates for your beloved.

Now I’m going to show you how to create some beautiful little personalised pancakes to show how much you really care.

These would be perfect for sweetening up that special someone for a day of romance, surprising them with a hearty breakfast….hearty….yes, it was awful….I expect no forgiveness!

These pancakes are neither sweet nor savoury so they will go well with bacon and egg or golden syrup and a drizzle of lemon, anything goes!

You will need a little special equipment to turn these from usual puffy pancake into the ultimate in romantic snacking though, your help comes in the form of a squeezy bottle with a small nib and at least one heart egg ring mould.

Just the kind of equipment anyone needs for a night out on the town I’d say, though I am slightly demented in the head.

So with everything to hand, I say, let us march on to the recipe!

Pepper’s Personalised Heart Shaped Pancakes!
Makes approx 12

Special equipment needed: Squeezy bottle, love heart egg rings

Ingredients

135g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons caster sugar
130ml milk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil, plus extra for frying
Toppings of choice, sweet or savoury


Method

In a large batter bowl sift the flour, baking powder salt and sugar.

In a separate jug, crack in the egg and add in the milk and melted butter/oil, whisk to combine.

Pour the egg and milk mixture over the dry ingredients in the large bowl and whisk until the batter is smooth.

Take a squeezy bottle and, using a funnel if needed, pour in about a quarter of your pancake batter or enough for the batter to easily squeeze out of the bottle.

Heat a frying pan over a medium low heat, greasing it with oil a small amount.

When the pan has heated up, and a test of pancake batter sets quickly, place in your heart shaped egg mould.

Using your squeezy bottle and speed, draw your design inside the heart mould.
Bear in mind that anything you draw will be the opposite way, if letters are involved, draw them backwards.

Wait for a few seconds, making sure your letters have set then spoon some batter into the rest of the mould, tilting the pan as needed to fill in the shape.

Once your pancake has cooked on one side, with hollow bubbles all over the surface facing you, carefully lift out the heart mould and using a spatula, flip the pancake.

Once the other side is browned, place on a warmed plate and repeat, greasing your pan lightly when necessary until all of the batter is used up.

Finally, arrange them with love, add your toppings, I used golden syrup and heart shaped apple slices and present them as a deliciously thoughtful breakfast in bed!
