People Not Guns

One of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard against gun control (which would more appropriately be called people control) is that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Of course, that's true, and it can be said of any tool employed by man. A plow pulled by a tractor doesn't make a furrow, a human does -- but it's a hell of a lot easier for that human to do it if he has a tractor and plow. And it's a hell of a lot easier to kill people (especially a lot of people) if you have a gun.
But while the gun is just a tool, it is a tool that can be very dangerous in the hands of the wrong person. That's why we need background checks (for people, not guns) and training (for people, not guns) and prohibitions on where a weapon can be carried (for people, not guns).
I understand the Second Amendment guarantees citizens the right to own a firearm, but the Supreme Court has said that right is not without limits. And reasonable people can agree that there are some people who should be restricted from owning and using a gun.
