Paws have shared new single ‘Joanna’ ahead of the release of new album ‘Your Church On My Bonfire’ (out 26 April via Ernest Jenning Record Co). Produced by Frightened Rabbit’s Andy Monaghan, the song is a three-minute anthem that brings to mind the likes of ‘The Remote Part’-era Idlewild or R.E.M. as Phillip Taylor pleads with the title character: ‘Please, Joanna, don’t disappear on me’.
With killer hooks from the very first second, the song finds Phillip talking openly about his past troubles (‘My life has taught me what it means to hate myself’) while also focusing on unforgettable people like ‘the drunk priest that wields his gun’. The striking video, directed by Alex Markman, also celebrates the character of New York City – a place that played a hugely important role in the creation of this new record.
