Party leaders have made a request collectively to the Speaker to ask President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and acting President and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to step down immediately.

Sri Lanka Muslim Congres Leader and parliamentarian Rauff Hakeem told the Daily News yesterday said that the party leaders are of the view that this issue cannot be solved without the President and the Prime Minister’s resignation.

However Hakeem said that neither the Prime Minister nor any member of the ruling party except Minister Tiran Alles were present at the Party Leaders Meeting.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, Tri-Forces Commanders and Inspector General of Police were present at the party leaders’ Meeting yesterday, he said. He said that the service chiefs gave an outline about the situation in the country and what may happen in the future too. Hakeem said that the Speaker informed the party leaders that the President would send his letter of resignation before midnight yesterday as announced by him.

The SLMC leader said that they are well aware that these manoeuvres have been planned by the Prime Minister and the President. “If they want to bring normalcy to the country, the President and the Prime Minister should step down,” he said.
