Everyrealm, a company that makes content for the metaverse and has big-name backers like Will Smith, Paris Hilton, and the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, is putting out a “home design” and virtual real estate game.
Hometopia is a new free-to-play game from Everyrealm that has been in the works for more than three years. The announcement says that players will be able to build virtual houses and communities “with friends.” Everyrealm also said that everything a player makes in the game will be theirs to keep.
Some of Hometopia will be based on Bloxburg and Brookhaven, two of Roblox’s “famous home design games” that have been seen more than five billion times, according to Everyrealm.
Janine Yorio, CEO of Everyrealm, says that Hometopia is “a gamified mix of Pinterest, Houzz, and Wayfair,” and that it is “set to attract people who want more grown-up versions of the Roblox interior design games they used to love as kids.” She also says that the new game, which will be released on the Epic Games Store later this year, will be appealing to female gamers, who aren’t as common in the gaming industry as men.
Alex Ahlund, who made Hometopia and has also made mobile games like Design This Home and Design This Castle, thinks it will be as popular as The Sims on a PC.
In March, Everyrealm said that it had raised $60 million through an S-series. A fundraising effort led by Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley who has put a lot of money into startups that make metaverse video games.
The musicians Nas and The Weeknd have both put money into Everyrealm. Before changing it, the company was called Republic Realm.
