I never realized how much dirty laundry a family of four could produce. Of course I was doing a lot of laundry when the kids were babies but I feel like I almost do more laundry now! Between wanting to change their outfit (my son is the worst about it) from spilling their lunch or getting dirty out back, we are usually working with 2-3 outfit changes a day. Throw in workout clothes from my husband and myself plus our outfits for the day and you have a serious amount of laundry.
So how do you tackle all of it? Unless an item is severely stained, everything goes in the laundry basket and I wait until I have a full load. I usually do laundry 2-3 times a week depending on how much has accumulated but Monday is definitely my main laundry day. I usually do 2-3 loads that day, and then I do some smaller loads throughout the week.
With so many kinds of laundry detergent out there, how do you know which one to choose? When I first started doing my own laundry in college (yes it took that long) I just used the detergent my mom had always used for us growing up. I continued to use the same kind until I got married and was a poor newlywed and actually had to stay on a budget. I strayed and tried a few different kinds without even knowing what was best for my clothes or family. And let me tell you, cheap isn’t always the best. And you have to be especially careful with kids because their skin is so sensitive.
So how do you choose? I recently tried Tide purclean from Target, the first bio-based detergent with the cleaning power of Tide. It’s made with 100% renewable electricity and is certified by the USDA Bio Preferred Program. You can save $1.00 with the neck hanger plus 5% off with the Cartwheel offer! Definitely worth giving it a try if you’re looking for ways to be environmentally conscious and make the best decisions for your family. My kids are always getting dirty when they’re not supposed to or deciding it’s time for an adventure when I least expect it. But that’s okay. Because in reality, lots of laundry means lots of memories.
What type of detergent do you use? What factors are important to you when choosing one?
