Paper Plant - A Bromelaid DIY Tutorial

I have been thinking of creating paper bromelaids for a long time since I thought the fire flowers in my How to Make 100 paper flowers book closely resembled a bromelaid..Incase you don't know a bromeliad it's those plant you see at supermarkets for gifting,they trap water in their leaves.A very hardy plant the epiphytic vriesea bromeliads are native to Central and South America. They are prized for their interesting and brightly colored flat (swordlike) flowers. They do well as indoor plants in shady conditions, and they can be kept outdoors as long as they are kept warm in shadier balcony gardens. So here is a version of my bromelaids,I am hoping to do more versions of them in the near future and a DIY to create them.If you are the type of person have a "black thumb" :-) these are for you..They won't wilt even if you dont water them.

Materials Needed:-Red Paper Green PaperKabab SkewersPotMossStem WireTacky GlueScissors
Step 2Using the fire flower template in the book cut out the petals for the bromelaid trimming of some edges for the top ones to make it smaller.You would need around 20 for each flower.Fold down the middle.
Step3Overlap 2 smallest petal on top add glue to stay in place insert skewer.

Step 5Form more petal adding petal downwards tilting petals to open out flowers.At the bottom trim petal to slimmer versions and stick to cover stem.
Step 6Cut a long leaf pattern from the book using cardstock

    Fold leaf in half

Curl leaf using blade of scissors running down the leaf halfway.Step 9

Glue a small stem wire to enable you to pot the leaves


Add Floral Foam to a pot and add moss.Insert flowers pushing skewer ends down.Add leaves and you have a wonderful plant you need not water!!!
