Over Rs.2.5 Mn in Cash and Gold Stolen from Businessman’s House

A thief had entered the house of a businessman who imports and distributes potatoes and onions, at Bethesda Place in Bambalapitiya on Wednesday night and had stolen cash and gold to the value of nearly Rs. 2.5 million.

The Bambalapitiya police said that during investigations it was apparent that the thief had entered the house through a window while the inmates of the house were asleep.

According to the complaint lodged by the businessman with the Police, Rs. 250,000 in cash and a Thali weighing 17 sovereigns had been stolen. Police said that no security cameras had been installed at the businessman’s house and that an attempt is being made to identify the robber by inspecting footage from cameras in neighbouring houses.
