Tree sparrows - after a big decline recently, these lovely little things are appearing more and more now
Lately I've been making a real effort to get outdoors more with my nieces... After coming across an online checklist rating your childhood and discovering that I fell very much into the Bubble Kid category, I decided I needed to make a real effort to encourage my nieces (and indeed Tyne when he's a bit older!) to embrace the great outdoors a bit more! The National Trust have put together a list of 50 things to do before you're 11, and in keeping with that we have been trying out a pack encouraging us to get outdoors more. The pack included: A water pistol, some chalks, an Alien Invasian plant set, a kite, and a paint your own birdhouse kit. The very first thing we did was get stuck into painting the birdhouse! Amelie had hours of fun designing her birdhouse and while she was painting it, I took the opportunity to have a chat with her about the types of birds we might see in the garden this winter.
The Traditional Robin - Amelie was most excited when I told her that seeing a Robin in your garden is supposed to mean that Christmas is coming!

Amelie put her birdhouse in the garden, we used some wild bird seed to attract them and had lots of fun watching the birds come and go! Amelie also had hours of fun planting her alien invasion kit, and we then ventured outside to do some chalk dolly drawings by drawing around our bodies and colouring in the "dollies" and dressing them how we wanted! We have really enjoyed making the effort to get outdoors more, and take more of an interest in nature and I will try to make sure that we keep this up! What are your favorite outdoor activities? Have you seen any unusual birds in your garden lately? As always, I'd love to hear from you!
