Our Real Food Meal Plan – Week 29

By Thecookspyjamas @thecookspyjamas

The weather was all over the place this week, which required some improvisation and juggling in the meal plan. My original plan for a cheesy cauliflower soup seemed like a great idea when I planned it, and a really bad idea when the temperature hit 32C.

This brings me to Eat Your Books; a search engine for your cookbooks. Eat Your Books is a subscription based service that allows you to search the cookbooks you already own in seconds, rather than searching through every cookbook for that elusive recipe. I mention it as when I found myself with a cauliflower originally destined for soup, I was able to quickly search for other cauliflower recipes in my cookbooks. The food I had already purchased was not wasted, and we had a more weather-appropriate meal.

This week we ate:

Sunday

Lemon Tuna Pasta

This is my (family favourite) storecupboard recipe - the one I can make with my eyes closed.

Monday

Broccoli, Asparagus & Ricotta Souffle, served with a green garden salad.

Tuesday

Sicilian Roasted Brill Steak with Lemon, Anchovies, Capers & Rosemary from Jamie Oliver's Happy Days with the Naked Chef. Served with cubed roast potatoes and raw kale salad.

I followed the instructions in this post on how to prepare the kale, drizzled it with a very lemony dressing, and set it aside to marinate for 15 minutes before serving.

Wednesday

Green Chicken Curry, served with jasmine rice.

Thursday

Penne with Sausage & Cauliflower, from Gennaro's Italian Kitchen by Gennaro Contaldo.

The cauliflower originally destined for soup was re-purposed into this tasty pasta dish.

Freezer Cooking

None. Zip. Nada. Much to The Princess's disgust, as we apparently have no food in the house. I promise to rectify this next week.

Bon Appetit!
