Oscars 2015 – Best Actress

Posted on the 22 February 2015 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

This is where it gets a little disappointing as I have only seen three out of the five nominated performances for this category. I don’t even remember hearing about ‘Two Days, One Night’ when that was released back in the summer in the UK. We are waiting for ‘Still Alice’ to be released which comes out in March sometime. So I will only be able to offer my thoughts on the other three nominees and look forward to seeing ‘Still Alice’ when it is released as well as trying to catch ‘Two Days, One Night’. Although you will probably know that only one actress is getting talked about when it comes to this category!

Marion Cotillard – Two Days, One Night

With not catching this film on its release I cannot offer any thoughts on Cotillard’s performance, but the Academy do seem to like her quite a lot.

Felicity Jones – The Theory of Everything – Review

For Redmayne to pull off a truly impressive performance he had to be working with someone who also pulled off an impressive performance and that is certainly what Jones managed to do in The Theory of Everything. She was brilliant and you could relate to her and she made it easy to understand how difficult it was to see the love of your life face such an awful disease. I certainly think that Jones deserves more credit for her performance with all of the hype and attention being on Redmayne she’s been forgotten about. She has an Oscar nomination too!

The whole film is based on a book from the point of view of Hawking’s ex-wife so that is probably how Jones managed to capture some moments so perfectly. They both brought brilliant performances from each other and it would be nice to see Jones getting the same amount of attention as Redmayne. Maybe it is just the wrong year for her in what has been talked about as year of Moore!

Julianne Moore – Still Alice

Tipped as favorite not only for this role but as a kind of career Oscar. Waiting for this film to be released in the next couple of weeks.

Rosamund Pike – Gone Girl – Review

I was in the minority of liking this film in all honesty it had so much hype around it on its release that I just found it to be overrated. However I will admit that Pike put in a pretty incredible performance, her character is a total psycho and I must say that she pulls it off very well. She has a few different phases to cover during the course of the film and I am pleased to see a role like this even getting a nomination for an Oscar.

It certainly feels like forever ago since I went to see this film at the cinema and while I wasn’t its biggest fan Pike certainly did put in a good performance as she made you hate her character for her actions. Rightly so, if you have seen this film you will totally understand what I mean. I think she has to just be happy with being nominated rather than having any chance of winning this year.

Reese Witherspoon – Wild – Review

This was probably my favorite out of the three performances I have seen in this category. Easily one of my favorite films seen at the film so far this year. Witherspoon was engaging and brilliant from star to finish, a film like Wild is difficult as you are pretty much on-screen for the whole thing. The hiking scenes in particular as it does have moments when not a lot is actually happening, which is when you must admire the performance.

It was always going to be a difficult role for Witherspoon but I think she shows that she can do all different types of films. I will freely admit that I am a big fan of hers and seen a lot of her films now. She has been nominated and won an Oscar before, I would love to see her pick another up for Wild but I think it’s an outside chance if anything.

Who I want to win – Reese Witherspoon

Who will win – Julianne Moore
