Orange Comet, a Los Angeles-based NFT entertainment firm and the studio behind Anthony Hopkins’ NFT collection “The Descendants,” raised $7.24 million through the sale of equity options, according to records filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Launched in 2021, Orange Comet’s digital collectibles website covers a variety of well-known entertainment and sporting franchises, such as collections from Hopkins and AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” “Interview with the Vampire,” and “Mayfair Witches.”

At this year’s NFT Paris, David Broome, co-founder and CEO of Orange Comet said, “When I got into the space two and a half years ago, the whole reason I got into it was that I felt like we can offer Hollywood-style production and storytelling with these properties.”

Orange Comet aims to introduce Web3 experts and newbies to the NFT experience, according to Broome.

“How do you first appeal to and attract the core enthusiast already in Web3? By delivering fantastic content to them,” he added. “A project that has a real roadmap, no bullshit, where they see where something is going, and it’s building to a larger scale than just the initial launch itself.”

Broome stated, “I want to get the next million people in. That’s the goal.”

Despite Broome’s declaration that he intends to attract fans with high-quality products, a supporting community is just as important as a triple-A console game.

In October 2022, Orange Comet released “The Endless,” the first NFT collection by iconic actor Anthony Hopkins.

Broome reports that roughly one hundred people were able to meet with the Oscar winner through Zoom conversation. Broome also observes that Hopkins was able to get fans due to his enthusiasm for Web3 education.

Despite the continued crypto cold that has resulted in layoffs and failing businesses, there are still opportunities on the market, according to Broome.

“In a bear market and a down market, the pretenders, scammers, bad artists, and everyone else in that category will disappear,” he said. “That is one of the good things that’s connected, because in a market like this, there’s opportunity.”

“I think that’s broken,” he explained. “I think that’s short-sighted to what the technology of the blockchain is and where it can go.”
