Like many others, I watched the Academy Awards last night and was bored to tears. I found most of it to be dull! Seth McFarland is much funnier as Ted the foul mouth teddy bear then as the host. Many people took to Twitter and other social media channels to discuss the events of the evening. I, however, did not. The action or drama as we like to call it kicked off when the popular website The Onion called 9 year old Best Actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis a c*nt on Twitter. Calling a child a c*nt is never a good look for any publication. I’m pretty sure I don’t have to explain what a c*nt is!

I have no idea who was tweeting on behalf of The Onion last night. I’m not sure if it was an employee or a hired ghost tweeter that people sometimes hire. Whatever the case, the tweet was highly inappropriate! I don’t know why they decided to call her that or whether they had a reason to or not. I honestly haven’t seen one interview she has given since her nomination. The tweet was posted last night and then taken down after an hour. Within that hour the tweet made its rounds and angered most people. Some people took it as a race issue while other just thought it was downright ridiculous. I for one say that no nine year old child should be called a c*nt regardless of race. I understand that people have become accustomed to saying whatever the hell they want on social media but there is

This afternoon, the Onion released a public apology to Quvenzhane Wallis and the Academy of Motion Pictures. They also stated that immediate steps are being taken to discipline those individuals responsible.  I can’t help but to wonder what type of discipline is being taken here.  I guess the assigned tweeter for the night didn’t realize that the tweet would go viral or maybe they did. I never visit the Onion, but last night prompted me to hop on their website.

I‘ve seen the movie Beast of the Southern Wild and I can go without ever seeing it again. If anyone out there can truly help me understand the theory behind this movie, please let me know. Her portrayal of her character in the movie was really good; it was just a stupid movie. But that’s my opinion! I forced myself to watch the last 40 minutes. Although, I did not like the movie, I know that this young actress has a great career ahead of her.  If I was her or her parents, I wouldn’t give a hot damn what anyone said. At nine, she probably doesn’t even fully understand what a c*nt is.

In other news, Kanye West went on a total rant in London and stated that the “Grammy’s could suck his d*ick”. The Onion and Kanye West should collaborate; apparently they both like to refer to body parts in the most vulgar way possible.

I think the apology came a little too late. I have to wonder what type of staff does the Onion have that would call a little girl such a vulgar word.

Thoughts?
