OnePlus continues to be popular with fans as it offers devices with flagship features but which are usually below premium flagship prices. But some features - like camera quality - arguably still suffer more than others.
While the OnePlus 8 Pro is apparently a taste of better things in this regard, Co-Founder and CEO Pete Lau is committed to investing heavily in the company's future camera program. Despite this confirmation, OnePlus has yet to climb a mountain before overthrowing the current elite of smartphone cameras.
We asked readers if they believed that OnePlus could actually take the camera crown away from the apples, Googles and Samsung's of the world in 2021. Here is what you told us.
Do you think OnePlus will take over the crown of photography in 2021?
Results
We gave readers the opportunity to vote on YouTube, Twitter and our website. While the various platforms generally provide different insights into the user mood on the Internet, nobody seems to believe in OnePlus. All three platforms delivered one-sided results.
We received around 1,500 votes on the website, but only 33.8% of those polled believed that OnePlus could do its mission. This would suggest that some of the most passionate OnePlus fans voted here.
The negative mood was more pronounced Twitter. Almost 84% of 4,200 voters believed that OnePlus would not be able to beat the 2021 camera quality charts. YouTube reflected this. 82% of the respondents doubted the company's goal.
Here's what you had to say
- Harjot Shah: Given your current direction of the opposition, the better question would be whether they would be able to equip a phone with good software.
- lightofjahs: You'd better partner up with Google and use the software that Google uses for their GCam.
- Shawn Diaz: I wish they literally invested in every other aspect of the phones. Or just keep them cheap.
- Stanislav Beránek: Voted no, even though they miraculously shipped an amazing camera with great software for taking photos, there is no way they could get anywhere near Apple in video.
- Binoy Mathew: No. You've definitely improved a lot. But so does the competition.
- Sam Dunham: I'm a huge OnePlus fan, but history isn't a good sign of that. Your cameras are good, but Google / Apple are not good.
