One Time: Marian Hill at WayHome Late Night 2016!

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

As the night got darker and LCD Soundsystem wrapped their set on the main stage, Philly duo Marian Hill started their late night party set, and didn't miss a beat.

Being tucked in at the WayAway stage gave the Marian Hill set a more intimate vibe in the middle of a big music festival, and that was pretty cool after being in a mass of main stage humanity just minutes before.

There was a nice pop when Jeremy and Sam took the stage, which is exactly what we expected, and what the band was hoping for. In fact, we talked to the two before the set and they were excited to get up in front of the crowd so they could feed off of their energy, and they could feed off of the crowd... and it was pretty clear that it was working out for them right away.

They also told us that playing festivals is fun for them because they know that the audience is there for music. They may not come to the stage knowing their music, but they're open to listening and engaging and taking it all in. And they're open to dancing, which happened as soon as the bass dropped in Marian Hill's first song of the night.

Note: It was actually pretty cool to see a crowd go from sitting down and mellowing out en masse, to standing and then dancing within about 5 minutes. They were all there to party, they just needed that little break first!

By the time the band's 11pm set started there had already been 10 hours of music on WayHome stages - so we asked the Jeremy and Sam if they were prepared to keep the party going... and their answer was a resounding yes! They promised a lot of sax and bass (which they delivered) and encouraged a lot of dancing (which we already told you about) during their set in the late night spot.

It's worth noting that the saxophone is a great addition to Sam's sweet voice and Jeremy's work on the keys and electronics. And it got great love from the crowd every single time there was any kind of solo.

Tracks like One Time and Wasted were a ton of fun at WayHome on the WayAway stage - and we can't wait to hear them again the next time Marian Hill come to the GTA.
