You may know Max Tannone as the wizard behind Selene, a series of rap tracks built on samples from Clint Mansell’s score for Moon, or as the mash-up / remix champion responsible for this Kanye / Reagan Youth collab and careening, maximalist reworks of Norah Jones and Sean Hayes. Tannone just dropped two tracks he made with Japanese MC One-J, both of which feature crushing drums and squeeky synthesizers polished to a cocaine-Nintendo sheen. My Japanese isn’t quite good enough to translate at tempo but the rhythmic delivery adds a lot to the spirit of the song; hopefully the duo will make more records in the future.
