I’m actually glad this skirt won because it’s exactly the type of item a woman purchases to change things up in her wardrobe, but, when she gets it home, she finds herself confused as to what to do with it. It is my hope that with the pencil skirt outfits I put together below you’ll get some inspiration.
If you’re new to this series, each week I choose (or in this case, a piece gets nominated) for me for style five different ways with the intention of teaching you how to maximize the use of the clothing in your wardrobe in a mix-and-match way. To read past entries on this topic you can click here.
Okay, on to the five outfits using this one skirt. For shopping information on all items, simply click the images.
Five Colored Pencil Skirt Outfits
Look #1- Make Others Green with Envy

Another way to wear this skirt is to look for printed tops that pick up the aqua shade of the skirt. Here I chose an abstract peasant blouse that can be worn out, tucked in or even belted. To further bring the aqua in, I chose a complementary necklace and the gray shoes were chosen as a softer option over black. Lastly, the white handbag gives the outfit a fresher and lighter look. Look #3- Colorblocked with CoralOne Item, Five Fashionable Ways- Look 3 by bridgetteraes featuring a long gold necklace
A third way to wear this skirt would be to colorblock it. In this case, you have to be willing to go bold. When colorblocking, look for two complementary colors. Orange and blue sit opposite each other on the color wheel and work well together when paired. For a cleaner, more moden look, I chose a boatneck top and went with accessories that pulled in the two colors. With coral being so trendy right now and such a versatile color, there is a good chance that you’ll get a lot of mileage from a bracelet in this shade.
Look #4- Accents of Black
One item, Five Fashionable Ways- Look 4 by bridgetteraes featuring nine west handbags
Like Look #2, I chose a print that picks up the aqua shade in the skirt and also brings in the coral again. With the black piping, an easy black cardigan and black heeled sandal brings the shade in while not being heavy or overpowering. However, instead of styling this look with a black handbag, I chose the same white bag, also from Look #2 to keep it summery and fresh. The earrings, also used in Look #3, further bring in the aqua and tie the whole outfit together.
Look #5- A White Blazer
One Item, Five Fashionable Ways- Look 5 by bridgetteraes featuring a high waist skirt
If you’re not accident prone, a white blazer is a great staple to have in your summer wardrobe. Not only is it summery, but it works well with all the colored and printed bottoms out there. Here, I added a navy tank to the look and added an unexpected yellow shoe. With the earrings that pick up all the colors, the shoes are unexpected while not looking out of place. Lastly, that white bag works with yet another outfit.
This summer, enjoy all the color available to you at the stores, but, remember, don’t buy anything unless you know what to do with it! I hope this week’s installment of this series helps you get some ideas on how to put colored pencil skirt outfits together!
