LATE Saturday night after the kiddies were tucked away, I took out my new polish to paint my nails. I was hosting a Stella & Dot Trunk Show on Sunday and I just wanted to look extra nice — besides I had taken a special trip to CVS to reward myself with a new vibrant color and I was determined to show it off.
Little L should have slept through the night. She had just had her night feed and every other night she is off to sleep until the early morning. But no. Not that night.
I had just finished the second coat on my left hand when I heard her wimper. I froze. I even stopped breathing. I thought "No no no. Go back to sleep." I waited, and I heard her rustle around in her moses basket.
Shoot. She was waking up.
I waited quietly and turned down the lights. Nothing.
Phewwww. Close call. I breathed again.
Deciding I was in the clear I reached over to get started on my right hand when...."Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!" She let out THE cry.

And that was the end of that. I didn't even try to be careful, I just threw in the towel because I figured the polish would smudge and I'd have to take it off.
After having her milk, cuddle time and giving me big smiles, I swaddled her back up and kissed her goodnight (again).
I hopelessly looked down at my nails only to see they were in perfect condition! But by then I was super tired and wasn't up for doing the other hand. I figured I could do it in the morning before heading out.

How stupid was that idea?
That was Saturday night. I spent all day Sunday and Monday rocking the one hand manicure.
Now it's Tuesday at 12:14 am and I have JUST managed to do the right hand. I'm going to enjoy this color because I don't see myself painting my nails any time soon.
