Verdict on Once Upon a Time in Uganda

Once Upon a Time in Uganda is a documentary following the Ugandan filmmaker, Isaac Nabwana. We see how he went out and started making zero-budget movies in Uganda with action and violence. His work took the internet by storm but despite his massive online following, he never seemed to achieve any funding.

This also focuses on the friendship between Isaac and Alan Hofmanis who wanted to help turn him into an international star. However, it shows the problems they faced with changes despite their popularity.

This isn’t anything like the trailer presents, as it is a lot more behind-the-scenes of the process they went through. The challenges they faced as the industry continued to go through changes. But most importantly, they went on to have fun making the movies no matter how many people saw them.

Where to Watch: Once Upon a Time in Uganda will screen at Odeon cinemas nationwide on 5 September + recorded Q&A with Wakaliwood filmmaker Isaac Nabwana
