On Sonoma: Part I of III

Recently, binNotes garnered an invite to the Sonoma Wine Road Show at  Hyatt at Olive 8  in downtown Seattle.

Hosted by Wine Road Northern Sonoma County, the event showcased the wines of Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley – including many fine Pinot Noirs, old vine Zinfandels, and chewy Cabernets – as well as a live jazz ensemble, gourmet eats and sweets, and a silent auction to benefit Northwest Harvest.

Founded in 1976,  Wine Road Northern Sonoma County now boasts over 190 wineries and 56 lodging members. The organization has one mission: increase awareness of Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valley  through education, outreach, and three annual events:

  • 15th Annual A Food and Wine Affair -November 2 & 3, 2013: A Weekend of wine and food pairing.
  •  22nd Annual Winter WINEland - January 18 – 19, 2014:Meet 100+ winemakers pouring new releases, limited productions & library wines.
  • 36th Annual Barrel Tasting -Feb 28 – Mar 9, 2014: Sample still-barreled wines & buy ‘futures.’  A portion of funds collected from the annual Barrel Tasting benefit the Redwood Empire Food Bank, a Sonoma food bank providing meals to children, elderly and families in need.

The Seattle event was packed, and only scratched the surface of great Sonoma wines and wineries. Luckily, two days after attending Sonoma Wine Road Show Seattle, binNotes boarded a plane to explore Sonoma first-hand. Stay tuned for  Part 2 of 3: Sonoma Wine Makers.

Cheers!

Many thanks to Marla McLaughlin of Wagstaff Worldwide, plus Tracy Logan, Lynn Thomas and the crew of Wine Road Northern Sonoma County for their assistance.
