With the mission statement of the Olympic Games in London is: 'London 2012 the most sustainable games ever', and it made me wonder how this mega snack corners would match that ambition.
On their website McDonalds claims:
- None of the restaurants in the Olympic Park will send their waste to landfill
- The furniture will be re-used in drive-thru restaurants by the end of 2012 (of which 1.600 light fittings, 1.000 seats)
- The kitchen equipment will be used in new restaurants built after the Games
As I have inspected it (while still in the Olympic record Queue) inside as well, I can confirm that the building and most of the furniture did look pretty recyclable. And even-though the idea of fast food at a sport event would not cross the mind of many people, the intention of McDonalds of at least delivering it in a sustainable way, should be considered a respectful effort. But it wasn't the queue nor the building that impressed me most. It was the pile of Milkshakes and Cola's (what is that yellow substance on the left?) that grabbed my immediate attention.
