Olden Yolk – ‘Grand Palais’

Olden Yolk – Shane Butler and Caity Shaffer – have shared ‘Grand Palais’ from their second album ‘Living Theatre’ (available via Trouble in Mind now).

Much of this track was improvised in the studio alongside percussionist Booker Stardrum as the New York-based duo attempted to capture the euphoria of ‘seek(ing) some semblance of spiritual understanding in various places, things and people outside of ourselves’. It is a mixture of Real Estate-style hooks and ’60s charm as the band wistfully sing about how ‘You call and you fall sometimes before it takes a more psychedelic approach with guitar solos, synths and freeform drumming. Imaging The Flaming Lips on a ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ and you’re halfway there…
