I happen to love the food of Michael Psilakis (I think I blogged about MP Taverna) so it was a great choice. Lisa and I arrived first, so we sat at the bar for an hour or so and ordered drinks - bartender's choice. I had the French 75, a mix of cava, gin, lemon and a bit of simple syrup. Lisa had the Smoky D: blanco tequila, mezcal, cointreau and pomegranate with a smoked almond/salt rim. They were really good...we each had two! Once Jamie arrived we sat to eat. We wound up splitting a delicious chopped bulgur with medjool dates, olives, breakfast radishes, peppers (well, I asked them to leave them out,) grilled onions, smoked almonds and pistachios. Seriously so good I could have eaten the whole thing myself (thankfully I'm a good sharer.) For entrees, both Jamie and Lisa had the bronzino with brussel sprouts which they seemed to enjoy, and I had mushroom bruschetta (hold the cheese and anchovies.) It was a large piece of sourdough, sliced in thirds, toasted or grilled with olive oil and topped with shiitake mushrooms and micro greens. It was really tasty. There were a few other options from which I could choose, and modify in one way or another, but this was a pretty terrific meal as it was. If you find yourself at 79th near Broadway, check it out!
