Oh So Tasty: Brunch at Souk in Trinity Groves

Moroccan Pancakes, Chocolate Bar, Moroccan Monte Cristo at Souk

When I think of Morocco, I see bright colors swirling around the hips of sexy belly dancers and smell sensuous spices in my mind. Souk has done a great job of transporting the look of a Moroccan Bistro and Bazaar directly from the Atlas Mountains to Dallas' newest dining and entertainment destination, Trinity Groves. When it comes to my thoughts on a restaurant, I care as much about the ambiance as I do the food. I want it all - a complete experience. Souk at Trinity Groves provides ambiance, great people-watching and a delectable menu, in spades. Now you can enjoy some sexiness over breakfast because Souk recently launched a new brunch menu and it is TO. DIE. FOR.  Carnivores will go crazy for the Steak & Eggs entree using Filet Mignon Beef Kabob pieces over a think slice of toast topped with an over-easy egg with Paprika roasted potatoes. If you are into sweets try the Moroccan Monte Cristo - their take on French Toast - which tastes like Funnel Cake stuffed with Mascarpone Cheese topped with honey, orange blossom, fresh berries and pistachios. Another favorite was the Moroccan Pancake made with Msemen bread (which has the consistency of a thick, chewy tortilla), Mascarpone Cheese, mixed berries, toasted almonds and Argon honey Syrup. Wash it down with a carafe of mimosas for $10. You can choose from Orange, Pomegranate or Apricot juice. The brunch menu is served noon to 4pm every Saturday and Sunday.

The beauty of Trinity Groves is that all of the restaurants in the center are different types of cuisines, so it's like visiting Epcot Center at Disney World, you can graze from country to country and have different experiences all in one location. Souk is definitely the most exotic of the lot and provides a other-worldly destination. "The restaurant is designed to evoke a marketplace, with strategically placed baskets and hanging lamps and lighting meant to imitate slatted sunlight beaming through the roofs of vendor booths," wrote the Observer. "The front is always open wide to the patio area... and the smells drifting from the open kitchen and tile-covered oven have attracted a lot of people." Souk has been open for a couple of years now and made quite a name for themselves as a date night destination with a menu chock full of savory tagines and after-dinner entertainment of belly dancing and hookahs. "The restaurant is broken down into various ‘rooms’ separated by a tapestry of thinly veiled cloth," wrote Crave DFW. "There is also a very private room located in the back of the restaurant that seats about eight people comfortably, and has an eagle eye glimpse of the kitchen. The atmosphere is very cozy and rich with mysterious lighting that gives you an other world feel." Visit on Friday or Saturday evenings and you can enjoy belly dancing. Who doesn't love a live stage show!? If you are feeling naughty or adventurous, partake in a hookah. They have a variety of flavors, from Lemon Chill to Passion Fruit Mojito to Simply Apple.
