Have you ever had a never ending baking experience? That turned into a baking fail(ish)? I have... with this yummySalted Caramel Buttercream Cake Recipe from Add a Pinchthat I found via Pinterest
So now that I have all of the ingredients again, I start making the frosting! I have no idea how to cook the caramel to a softball stage nor do I have a candy thermometer (it's now on my list) so I definitely didn't cook the caramel long enough at all (it was still white, oops) because I had no idea what I was doing. So after I mixed my "white caramel" with all the ingredients for the frosting it didn't taste very good! My dad and brother were trying to convince me to use it anyways but I couldn't, it was too bad!
In the mean time, my cake was sticking and falling apart as it came out of the cake pans.
I have no idea why. I guess I needed more shortening and flour on the pans?...I should have just given up now as it was getting late and I still had to get ready to go out for line dancing! But I couldn't give up that easy!...
Round 2 of frosting... I didn't buy enough stick butter as I wasn't planning on wasting 2 sticks of butter so I split the frosting recipe in half. Knowing I wouldn't have enough frosting for the cake. Cooking the caramel was taking longer than I expected it was already dark out and I still had to get ready. Finally it caramelized and I mixed the rest of the ingredients in. It tasted pretty good but I don't think I caramelized it enough, oh well.
So we (my dad started helping me now, he was tired of watching me fail. Haha) pieced the cake back together and added the little bit of frosting that I had. My friend was already here and ready to go so I took a picture of my messy cake and a bite then rushed to get ready!
I found out later that my family, grandparents, uncle and cousins ended up eating it and actually said it was good... I though they were joking. My uncle couldn't stop eating it...I was so surprised since I messed it up so much. That's why it's a "Fail(ish)"
I will be trying this again sometime because if my family liked it messed up then they'll love it when it's right! ;)
