- An official rendering of a Huawei Mate 40 series phone has surfaced online.
- The render suggests that at least one of the phones in the series has an octagonal camera array.
- It seems that the phone has physical volume buttons too.
Tired of the all-too-common square camera arrays on flagships? The Huawei Mate 40 series could be some kind of break. According to a teaser (via GSMArena Posted on Weibo by Hewe, the head of Huawei's mobile product, at least one of the line's phones will feature an octagonal camera array.
Judging by the render, the six-sided array takes up a large part of the top third of the phone. It's a marked departure from previous unofficial depictions of the Mate 40 with a circular camera arrangement. The render doesn't give us a lot of information about the actual sensor placement or how many shooters will be present. Huawei fans will likely be hoping for the P40 Pro Plus' superb Penta camera setup.
Other design information we can get is the welcome return of a physical volume rocker and power button. This should make the Mate 40 much more user-friendly than the Huawei Mate 30 Pro with its peculiar touch controls. The teaser reveals little about the phone's internals or specs, but we know for a fact that this will be the final Mate line to feature flagship Kirin silicon.
However, we don't have to wait long for an official announcement. Huawei will unveil the Mate 40 series in China on October 22nd. However, you may have to wait a little longer for availability in other global markets.
