Obama to Act on Gun Control Next Week with Fresh Executive Orders

The Assault Weapons Ban is not enough. He thinks expanding background checks is the answer. But we know that isn’t the solution. If he and the other gun-grabbers had their way, it would be confiscation.

Fresh from his Hawaiian vacation, President Barack Hussein Obama is expected to announce his long-awaited executive orders directed at guns. Work has not yet been completed on the mandates, which Obama ordered as part of a ‘scrub’ of the gun laws earlier this year following a string of high-profile shootings. Despite that, CNN says the directives are ‘imminent’.

The president is expected to take action to expand background checks. Daily Mail reports that he could go a step a further and give his approval to a regulation that the federal government says would help it track lost or stolen shipments of guns, according to a Politico report.

You know girl, we don’t need no stinkin Congress…

Obama has also said he will meet with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Monday to discuss ways of reducing gun violence unilaterally through measures that do not require congressional approval. Maybe they should take a look at Chiraq’s gun measures to see how they work in reducing gun violence?

The White House has been urging Congress for years to take action to reduce gun violence. A 2013 push for expanded background checks in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting fell flat and lawmakers have not revisited the issue since.

Several days after the Umpqua Community College shooting in October, Obama recommitted himself to finding a way to act on gun control, even if it meant going through the legislative branch, which is now wholly controlled by Republicans.

Obama said he again asked his team ‘to scrub what kinds of authorities do we have to enforce the laws that we have in place more effectively to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.’

The Democratic president was lambasted by conservatives for turning a time of mourning into a political opportunity to clamp down on guns. But since when does Obama care what anyone says about him? Obama defiantly said: “I will politicize it because our inaction is a political decision that we are making.”

Since then the administration has been looking for legal rational the president could use to bypass Congress. ‘It is complicated. That’s why it’s taken some time for our policy folks, our lawyers, and our expects to work through this and see what’s possible,’ White House spokesman Eric Schultz told CNN.

While no firm date has been established by the administration, Obama is likely to make his move before his final State of the Union address on January 12.

He’ll reportedly widen the number of individuals required to pass background checks by expanding the definition of the term ‘engaged in the business’ to include sellers beyond those currently affected by the law. That could include individuals who make a profit off of selling guns from personal collections or at firearms shows but do not count it as their ‘principal objective of livelihood and profit.’

In broadening the number of sellers who fit into that category, the administration can increase the number of licensed sellers who must legally process background checks on potential buyers. And we all know that criminals will comply with these new rules.

Two gun-grabbing, peas in a pod…

Gun-control group Everytown for Safety, led by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who met with Obama at the White House before the president left for his Hawaiian vacation, wants the administration to limit personal collections to guns that have been the seller’s possession for at least a year.

Obama could also require licensed sellers to report lost or stolen merchandise to the National Crime Information Center, Politico reports. Currently the system is voluntary, but the administration is would like to make it mandatory.
