Neither of the two leading candidates for the Democratic nomination for governor could win in a field of nine candidates. With a little over 98% of the vote in, former Dallas Sheriff Lupe Valdez led the field with about 42.8%, and Andrew White (son of former governor Mark White) had about 27.4%. The other seven candidates garnered about 29.8%, forcing Valdez and White into a run-off.
The other statewide candidates for the Democrats are set for the November ballot, including Beto O'Rourke, who will try to take the U.S. Senate seat from Ted Cruz. Here are the statewide Democratic candidates with their vote percentage:
