NYC Ecuadorian-American Singer Songwriter Sara Ontaneda Releases Empowering New Pop Single “Hey Maria”

Multi award-winning Ecuadorian-American singer songwriter (based in NYC) Sara Ontaneda has released a new pop single " Hey Maria ", complete with an empowering, impassioned message. Oft described as alternative pop, Sara incorporates folk, R&B and South American sounds into her unique signature sound.

About "Hey Maria": The inspiration behind "Hey Maria" came when the singer was visiting her family in Ecuador and the TV was on. The news channel she was watching was talking about the shocking statistics of Femicide and Violence Against Women in Latin America and the world. The singer realized how a lot of times women are judged unfairly when getting into these situations.

Biography:
Sara Ontaneda is an award-winning singer-songwriter based in New York City. Her music is a colorful blend of Pop, R&B and Folk sounds with heart-felt lyrics in both Spanish and English.

Sara discovered her passion for music at a young age. At age 7 she started piano lessons and at age 9 she joined her school's choir in Miami, Florida. Throughout her childhood, splitting time between Guayaquil, Ecuador and Miami, she studied classical music. The love for music placed her in Berklee College of Music where she majored in Contemporary Writing and Production. She graduated with honors and received scholarship awards for her efforts.

After a year of hard work, Sara finished her first EP, "Marte y Júpiter" where she took the roles of writer, recording engineer, and producer. The EP was released on July 14th, 2015 and received numerous positive reviews from journals in Latin America and Spain. This led Sara to tour in Ecuador as well as many cities of the US, including festivals like South By Southwest (SXSW 2017), MUSIKFEST, South Florida Folk Festival, and others.

On March 2017, Sara released her debut album, "Entre Espacios y Colores" which includes 4 songs in English and 5 in Spanish. Sonically, the album blends South-American, R&B, and Alternative elements and is often described as Nu-Latin. The album has been reviewed positively in many journals of the US and Latin-America. The Huffington Post rates 'Entre Espacios y Colores' as "an excellent album overall, with mainstream appeal... there's no fluff, just great Nu-Latin jazz music. And Sara's voice is not to be missed." With this album, Sara toured internationally with notable performances in SXSW, the NAMM Show, LIFA Music Festival (Mexico City), among others.

On April 2019 Sara won the award for "Best World Music" at the Richmond Film and Music Festival. Recently, Sara won the "Artist Revelation of the Year" award at the Premios Unidad in NYC (Ecuadorian Music Awards). Sara continues to tour internationally, playing music from the heart. "Hey Maria", her newest single comes out on August 26 and will be available in all streaming platforms.
