NVIDIA Unveils TITAN RTX – a Powerful Tool for Data Scientists and Researchers

By Travelrasoi @travelrasoi

At the ongoing Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems, NVIDIA has introduced the NVIDIA TITAN RTX. Touted as the world’s most powerful desktop GPU, TITAN RTX provides massive performance for AI research, data science and creative applications.

Powered by the new NVIDIA Turing architecture, the GPU delivers 130 teraflops of deep learning performance and 11 GigaRays of ray-tracing performance.

Dubbed T-Rex, TITAN RTX comes as a result of more than 10,000 engineering-years of effort. It is seen to be NVIDIA’s greatest leap since the invention of the CUDA GPU in 2006.

“Turing is NVIDIA’s biggest advance in a decade – fusing shaders, ray tracing, and deep learning to reinvent the GPU,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “The introduction of T-Rex puts Turing within reach of millions of the most demanding PC users — developers, scientists and content creators.”

The Turing platform features new RT Cores to accelerate ray tracing, plus new multi-precision Tensor Cores for AI training and inferencing. These two engines — along with more powerful compute and enhanced rasterization — enable capabilities that will transform the work of millions of developers, designers and artists across multiple industries.

TITAN RTX is designed for a variety of computationally demanding applications, offering an unbeatable combination of AI, real-time ray-traced graphics, next-gen virtual reality and high performance computing.

The GPU delivers –

  • 576 multi-precision Turing Tensor Cores, providing up to 130 teraflops of deep learning performance.
  • 72 Turing RT Cores, delivering up to 11 GigaRays per second of real-time ray-tracing performance.
  • 24GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory with 672GB/s of bandwidth — 2x the memory of previous-generation TITAN GPUs — to fit larger models and datasets.
  • 100GB/s NVIDIA NVLink can pair two TITAN RTX GPUs to scale memory and compute.
  • Incredible performance and memory bandwidth for real-time 8K video editing.
  • VirtualLink port provides the performance and connectivity required by next-gen VR headsets.

TITAN RTX is designed to outperform competition and transform the PC into a supercomputer for AI researchers and developers. TITAN RTX provides multi-precision Turing Tensor Cores for breakthrough performance from FP32, FP16, INT8 and INT4, allowing faster training and inference of neural networks. Offering twice the memory capacity of previous generation TITAN GPUs along with NVLink, TITAN RTX will allow researchers to experiment with larger neural networks and data sets.

Just like researchers, the GPU will be a powerful tool for data scientists. TITAN RTX will accelerate data analytics with NVIDIA RAPIDS, which is an open-source library that integrates seamlessly with data science workflows to quicken up machine learning.

Good news is, TITAN RTX will be available later this month in the U.S. and Europe for $2,499, but it will not be available in India as of now.

A new Game Ready Driver in the offing by NVIDIA

In another new update, NVIDIA has upgraded its game, Battlefield V: Tides of War Chapter 1: Overture with new content and a substantial increase in DXR ray tracing performance. GeForce Gamers will now be ready with a new Game Ready Driver.

Battlefield V on November 14th became the first game to utilize DXR ray tracing when the first release of DXR became available via an in-game patch. Since then, NVIDIA has been working closely with EA and DICE to optimize DXR ray tracing in Battlefield V, improving its performance up to 50%.

This driver will also provide the best gaming experience in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth patch with improved DX12 performance, as well as Just Cause 4.

NVIDIA Game Ready Drivers provide the best experience for GeForce gamers, with NVIDIA engineers ensuring optimized performance and perfect gameplay. To top it all, every Game Ready Driver is WHQL-certified by Microsoft.

Important updates:

  • GeForce RTX 2080 Ti gamers will now be able to achieve 60+ FPS at 1440p resolution with DXR Raytraced Reflections set to Ultra quality.
  • GeForce RTX 2080 gamers will now be able to achieve 60+ FPS at 1440p resolution with DXR Raytraced Reflections set to Medium quality.
  • GeForce RTX 2070 gamers will now be able to achieve 60+ FPS at 1080p resolution with DXR Raytraced Reflections set to Medium quality.
  • GeForce Gamers are ready with a new Game Ready Driver for Battlefield V: Tides of War Chapter 1: Overture.
