Last week we reported that Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, died in the middle of a court proceeding over the Los Angeles convent, Immaculate Heart of Mary that she and another nun was trying to prevent Pop star, Katy Perry from getting.
Now, Sister Rita Callahan, who is the other nun involved in the legal battle with the singer over the sale of their convent says the process has left her broke.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sister Callanan, whose 80 years old, revealed that she had hundreds of thousands in the bank and was a paper millionaire, but now her bank account is at zero, she has no food in her pantry, her healthcare check has bounced on more than one occasion and on top of that she’s battling cancer.
Sister Rita Callanan, and sister Catherine Rose Holzman had agreed to sell their eight-acre hilltop convent to a restaurateur in 2015 for $15.5 million, with the understanding the woman would turn it into a boutique hotel.
At the same time, the Archdiocese made a deal to sell the Los Feliz property for $14.5 million to Katy Perry, who planned to convert the 20,000-square-foot convent into a sprawling home.
Perry and the Archdiocese sued the restaurateur, Dana Hollister, in 2015, claiming Hollister tried to interfere with their deal.
Sis. Rita and Sis. Catherine were the only two remaining members of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary until Sis. Catherine passed away last week, leaving Sis. Rita alone.
