Hospital investigations reveal that there is no poisonous substance in the body of a 17-year-old novice monk from the Hindagala Rajamaha Viharaya who was recently admitted to Peradeniya hospital after he claimed he was forced to drink a poisonous brew by a stranger.

The novice monk had stated to the police that this stranger had visited the temple with a bottle which he claimed contains poison and threatened to drink it.

The novice monk had said he informed him not to do such a thing in the temple grounds and when he was told to leave the place, he held a knife to the neck of the monk and forced him to drink it.

However other than the novice monk no one else had seen a stranger in the temple premises.

The police are to question the novice monk on his statement after it was revealed that there was no poisonous substance in the body of the monk.
