The following is an announcement from Shirley Harriman, Chair of the LLARTC Election Committee:

The Lake Los Angeles Rural Town Council (LLARTC) Election Committee is responsible for publishing details about and making the election known to the public, attracting new Council member candidates, preparing the election forms, manning the election table on November 4, 2014, counting the ballots and preparing the winners’ names roster.

The committee presents the results to the Council in preparation for ratifying the election results at the November Regular Open Meeting. If you are interested in being on this committee, please send an email to LLAPOSTERQUEEN@SBCGLOBAL.NET and I will get back to you immediately.

It is not too soon to start preparing for this year’s election or considering a run for one of the open seats. Currently there are five (5) open positions. Two (2) Council member seats are open currently.

You do not have to wait until November to occupy one of those seats. You can apply and be appointed by the present sitting Council.

You must prove that you are a current resident of Lake Los Angeles for a minimum of six (6) months, maintain your primary residence in Lake Los Angeles during the term of your elected/appointed office and be a registered voter. To review the totality of the requirements, the By-Laws can be reviewed at LLARTC.COM.

The other three (3) seats open are Senior and Junior Alternate positions and Sergeant At Arms. These positions attend both the Planning and regular meetings of the Council. These positions must meet the same requirements as any person running for the LLARTC.

Once I receive emails from people who want to help, then I will set a meeting date, time and place hopefully in February.

The next Council meeting will be Tuesday, February 25. Please plan to attend and make your desire to be a part of the Council known at that time. Application forms will be made available to you at that meeting. Anyone new to the community should immediately take steps to become a registered voter.

The next Council Planning meeting will be held on Wednesday March 5. The Council meetings are held at the Lake Los Angeles Community Gymnasium starting at 7:00 p.m.
