Yeah, good luck with that guys

  • Last week, the Neo Hundred formed from the ashes of the CROWDS and started raising havoc in the Tachikawa.
  • Summary: As the city of Tachikawa is recovering from the attacks on the Ministry of Defense, the Prime Minister is being rushed out of the area. However, his phone is hacked by Katze, and the secret whereabouts of his location are discovered. Katze then informs the Neo Hundred of where he’s going, and they start their attack. Once the Gatchaman catch word of this, they rush to the scene. Hajime then uses an “amnesia remind” to make the CROWDS visible to everyone. Once the crowds became visible, the Gatchaman then resorted to attacking the CROWDS just enough to subdue them and not cause injury to the people controlling them. As the team in subduing the CROWDS, the city is being evacuated and the Prime Minister is rushed to the Gatchaman hideout where he, O.D, and Paiman get into a heated discussion about what it means to truly be a leader. At the same time, Joe is evacuating the city, but then he remembers what he told Sugane years back and decided to resume his work as a Gatchaman once again. Paiman then draws inspiration, and joins the team in fending off the CROWDS as the episode ends.

Please refrain from kissing the screen

  • My Take: The time for action is now! Throwing dialog and exposition out the window, we finally get a little bit of action! In past episodes, we’ve seen some action sequences spliced in with the plot, but here we have 20 minutes of straight fights with some dialog spliced in. I like that they waited this long to bring out episodes like this because doing so gives a certain amount of buildup to the fights, thus making them more rewarding. And with this week’s episode, not only did it feel rewarding, but it was actually some of the most intense action I’ve seen in an anime in a while (granted, I mainly watch serious shows that consist almost mainly of dialogue, but that still makes my previous comment true).

No, I’m so lame. You’re 100% awesome

  • There’s so much to love in this episode, where shall I begin? I know! We finally get to see Utsu-tsu’s Gatchaman form! I stated a couple recaps ago that one of my favorite aspects of the show was seeing the Gatchaman forms of each of the team members, and with this, we’ve seen all of them except for O.D’s. I really like the look of her design, which is like a collage of mechanical parts and neon (which actually looks much cooler than I described it). It just goes to show hoe each team member’s Gatchaman form can represent their personality/interests.
  • It appears that Joe has decided to come back to the Gatchaman team. After he lost his battle with Katze and nearly died as a result a few episodes ago, he has been very distant from the team, basically just wallowing in self-pity. Instead of doing any soul-searching that any other character in this situation would do, he decided to just forget about the Gatchaman. However, in this episode, he decides to return. I like this because it’s almost like acceptance; he’s accepting the fact that he won’t always win, and the fact that it’s okay to accept help from others. At least that’s what I saw in him this episode.
  • Paiman is getting serious! He basically acknowledges in this episode that he’s not a perfect leader, but also nobody is a perfect leader. He says that everything that happens to leaders in unexpected, and nobody can expect everything that’s thrown at them, especially when others’ lives are at stake. His role as the quiet and flawed leader who has his heart in the right place is what makes me love his character and the situations he gets himself in.

You’d be really intimidating if you weren’t a miniature panda

  • Episode 10 isn’t just another solid episode; it’s what I would consider to be a great episode. Everything I’ve been looking for in this series is here. Looking back on my older recaps of this series and the other series I’m reviewing, Sunday Without God, I initially didn’t like this show as much as I did with Sunday Without God. Now the opposite is true. Anyway, I can’t wait to see what is in store for us in the last few episodes. The buildup is so intense for me right now, I just have no idea how all of this is going to end!
