Not Just a Memorial Park, Himlayang Pilipino is a True Historical Site

Have you been to Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park in Tandang Sora, Quezon City? Yes, it's a cemetery. And don't worry, this is not a horror story. I just noticed that more and more people are becoming interested in historical and heritage tours. This is actually great because it is important to know and embrace our history and culture.

There are a handful of cemeteries in Metro Manila that is worth visiting for a historical tour. But I do not have the time, budget and energy to travel a bit farther. So I decided to explore places I have easy access. First on my list is the Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park.

The Aguirre Group acquired St. Peter Memorial Park from the Francisco Bautista family in 1971. With the new management, Himlayang Pilipino, Inc. was born. Since my grandfather is buried here, my family and I frequent Himlayang Pilipino. And to be honest, it really is more than a resting place. From a 5-hectare (now over 35 hectares) memorial park, we've seen how it was developed.

Himlayang Pilipino is not just a memorial park. It is a true historical site, a hallowed place and a witness to the heroism and bravery of our national heroes.

Want a tour? Take note, I explored the place by myself. I am not an expert and I don't have any trivia like legit guides do. In this video, I just shared what I learned based on the information written in the plaques.

Don't worry. It's just 6 minutes long. Also, can you do me a favour? Can you please hit subscribe and click the bell icon for notifications? Thank you and enjoy!

Besides the ones I shared on the video, I did miss two because I couldn't find them. First is the sculpture of "Florante at Laura" created by Francisco Bulaong. Second is "Ang Sigaw ng Pugad Lawin" by Renato Rocha.

But don't worry. I'll find them next time and will share with you.

I would just like to add that knowing and understanding our history and culture is as important as respecting them. If you plan on visiting landmarks or museums, please always be mindful of your actions. Do not litter or destroy things that are not yours. If they say taking videos is not allowed, please respect their rule.
