Among the aircraft in the Planes of Fame Museum’s collection is this F-86 Sabre that was being restored. A characteristic of early model F-86As thru Es was the V-shaped windscreen, later replaced by optically-flat windscreens in late-model E variants. The Sabre is best known as the United States’ first swept-wing fighter that could dogfight against the Soviet MiG-15 during the Korean War. First flown in 1947, close to 9,900 would be produced and used by a number of nations. The last Air National Guard Sabres continued in U.S. service until 1970.
