When this all started, I like everyone else felt like this is perfect time to tackle all of the projects that I have been putting off. Then the first week passed and nothing happened. Here we are in week four and those projects have gone nowhere. I won't lie, for a moment it felt like somewhat of a fail.
Then I had a realization. Why is it a fail? This is not some free time that just popped up on my calendar. We are all locked in our homes only permitted to leave for a small stretch of exercise, food, and medicine. We're doing this to slow the spread of a virus that is claiming the lives of thousands.
This is a collective traumatic experience. I've heard it compared to a war and honestly I don't think this is an exaggeration. I can't even begin to think of the longterm emotional effects this will have on everyone, especially those who are fighting this virus on the front lines.
During a time like this it's not a strange for a productivity surge to not come. We're all just trying to survive and that's enough. More than enough.
I saw something when this first started that said write that book, start that business, finish that project. All you have is time. It's a great sentiment, but we have to remember why we have time.
If you're feeling super productive, go for it. Or don't. Maybe just binge that series, take that nap, order that take out. All you have is time so do whatever with it what you please. There no right way to do this.
