Being a girl isn't easy. Raising a girl is even harder. In our home we teach that girls can do anything, be anything and play anything. Honestly, the only time we actually differentiate between the boys and the girls is when it comes to that time of the month. I hate that my girls have to go through it and I have been very understanding because I was once young too. I also make sure that they don't stop or feel limited in their extracurricular activities. They love being on their soccer and swim teams and nothing will stop them from going to practice. Since it's the holidays, I thought it would be nice to get together with the girls and make something for their teammates. For the soccer team, we decided on no-sew braided headbands that are easy to make and will help build team unity!! Girls building girls up is what we are about here!!
No-Sew Braided Headbands
Materials:3 colors of fabricscissorsmeasuring tapehair tiesglue gun
First step is to use the measuring tape to measure your head where a headband would sit.
Lay out your fabric and cut to the measurement. My strips were 21 inches long by 1/2 inch wide.
I cut a strip from each color. We picked the blue, orange and white because those are the team's uniform colors. You can make these headbands any color, print or fabric you'd like.
With your glue gun, glue the ends of all three fabrics together and then glue to a hair tie.
Then, it's time to start braiding. There will be some frays to the fabric. Once I was done braiding, I just burned off the frays with a lighter.
Once you are done braiding, tie a knot at the end and then glue to the other end of the hair tie.
VOILA! Easy, super cute headband. Now, we just need to make 14 more!!
Hanging out together making these headbands has been a great bonding experience with the girls. WE talked about school, friends, how much having a period sucks and holiday plans. It's funny how every time we get together, we talk about that time of the month. They are curious, have so many questions and I gladly answer them all. I also make sure they know items to have on hand so they feel more confident. One of the must-haves is Advil Menstrual Pain tablets. These tablets provide menstrual cramp, headache and backache relief so they are always ready to go!!
